Why is it that when we are at work, we constantly daydream about sun-drenched beaches, exotic destinations, and endless days of relaxation? But the moment we finally go on holiday, we suddenly want to do everything except relax?
It almost feels like our brain is playing a merciless trick on us. When we are tied to our desks, busy with deadlines and meetings, we feel trapped, longing for an escape into the freedom of vacation. We count down the days, fantasize about carefree moments, and promise ourselves that we will make the most of our next holiday.
But as soon as that long-awaited vacation finally arrives, irony strikes. We find ourselves lounging on a sunbed by the pool, a cocktail in one hand and a book in the other. Yet instead of fully relaxing, our mind starts buzzing with restlessness. “Maybe we should start a new course,” it whispers quietly. “Or what about picking up that hobby again?”
And before we know it, we are busier than ever, hopping from one activity to the next as if our lives depend on it. We explore picturesque villages, take selfies at mountain peaks, and try every culinary delight the local cuisine has to offer. Before long, it feels like we need a holiday from our holiday!
But let’s be honest, maybe this is the beauty of life the constant desire for new experiences, new adventures, and yes, sometimes even for that desk we always want to escape from. So let’s enjoy every phase, whether it’s working or being on holiday, and most of all, let’s not forget to laugh at the absurd paradoxes of being human. And who knows, maybe the secret to happiness is being able to enjoy both: working and holidaying.
